Møller & Bøgely Skønvirke Ceramic Table Lamp

€750.00

A rare Danish Skønvirke ceramic table lamp by Møller & Bøgely, produced during the workshop’s short period of activity around 1917–1920. The sculptural ceramic body is decorated with strongly graphic, organic motifs in cream against a deep brown-black glazed ground, with ochre detailing.

The underside bears the characteristic Møller & Bøgely MB workshop mark together with SK, a mark associated with Danish ceramicist Søren Kongstrand, and an additional crossed-H mark which remains under research.

The piece was conceived as a lamp rather than subsequently converted from a vase. Its bold decoration and substantial form are characteristic of the Danish Skønvirke movement, combining Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau influences with the individual language of early 20th-century Danish studio ceramics.

Electrical fittings and wiring appear to have been renewed at a later date.

Denmark, c. 1917–1920
Dimensions: H 44 × Ø 12 cm
